Cheap Curb Appeal Projects

Curb appeal can be difficult to define but easy to recognize when you see it. It’s to do with how attractive your home is within its context. The important thing is to have an impact in the first few moments as a prospective buyer drives up to your property and takes the short walk to your door.

A curb appeal project is a simple piece of work that for little effort can increase the attractiveness of your home to a prospective buyer. It need not be expensive or take much time to complete. It does grab attention, impress and invite visitors to view the property positively.

Green Up

If you have a lawn make the most of it. Cut the grass and trim the edges so they look sharp and cared for.

Rake any leaves off the lawn regularly and before a planned viewing. Remove any weeds and keep it watered in dry weather so it stays green.

Use plants to set off features such as doorways and windows. You might use flowers inside to perfume and beautify your home. Introduce planters outside and provide a colourful welcome to visitors.

Clean Up

Take a look at your home from the street. Are there any signs of dirt or debris that you can clean up to present a more cared for appearance? Go to work and remove any mess and clean up.

A little effort and a jet wash can work miracles. Remove old grime and clean up paving and driveways. Wash down walls, doors and window frames to make them look good as new.

Coloured Door

The front door is a strong feature of most homes. It can give a good impression but it can equally give a negative impression. What’s worse still, it can be bland and uninteresting.

Make your front door a high impact entrance to your home. Use strong colours but coordinate with other colours around it. A new paint job is an easy DIY project but one that instantly has an impact.

Brighten Up

If you have viewings of your home by prospective buyers when the light is fading in the evening you should consider lighting. A good first impression in the dark has to be all about your outdoor light fixtures.

Make sure any lighting is clean and cobweb free. Can you improve the lighting so that it is more welcoming? Solar-powered lighting can be cheap and impressive as a way of lighting walkways and drives.

Seasonal Appeal

Take the opportunity of the seasons to add some extra appeal. Don’t let the opportunity of Halloween pass without a pumpkin display and wreaths at Christmas can add colour and charm.
